The Egyptian Ministry of Awqaf (the Islamic Affairs), ordered the closing of the Shia Mosque al-Hussein – situated in Cairo – for three days. This, in order to prevent the celebrations of the Ashura Day. In the Shia world, the Ashura Day commemorates the death of Husayn ibn Ali, grandson of Muhammad. The Egyptian Ministry explains the decision saying that the Shiite ritual has no basis in Islam and announced that it will take legal actions against any “abuse on this regard”.
