The Mandean community of the Iranian Khuzestan Province denounced that the regime forces have attacked and destroyed one of their cemetery. The cemetery is located in Ahwaz, the capital of the Khuzestan Province. The Community said that the provocative and violent action was organized in order to enflame the sectarian conflict in the area.
Like the Ahwazi Arabs, the Mandeans are indigenous to the southwest Iran. The community follows an old Gnostic religion, committed to non-violence, which originates from the followers of John the Baptist (before Christianity and Islam). Their cult and rituals are not recognized in Iran, like the one of the Baha’is.
