Hossein Amir Abdollahian – former deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs and now Parliamentary Director General for International Affairs and Assistant Speaker of Parliament – spoke about the internal crisis in Turkey and the relations between Ankara and Tehran. Speaking with Sputnik, Hossein Amir Abdollahian said that it is clear that United States were aware of the military coup attempt against Erdogan. He also added that the US military presence in the air base of Incirlik is unacceptable and represents a clear meddling in the internal affair of Turkey.
Hossein Amir Abdollahian underlined that the relations between Iran and Turkey is “strategic” and that, during the military coup attempt, Tehran supported Erdogan for the same reasons it supports Assad in Syria. Hossein Amir Abdollahian invited Turkey to rethink its foreign policy and to act in a realist manner.
