Speaking in an event dedicated to the remembering of the disaster of Mina, Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami – Tehran interim Friday Prayers Leader and member of the Assembly of Experts – launched a harsh attack against Saudi Arabia and Rafsanjani. Khatami described Saudi Arabia as “worse than Satan”, saying that Wahhabism is only the creation of the British colonialism, like the Baha’i. The comparison it is very important, especially because Iran considers the Baha’i a diverted sect, against which Khamenei has also published a special fatwa.
Pointing out that the only man who can direct the Iranian foreign policy is the Supreme Leader Khamenei, Ayatollah Khatami underlined that the nation will cut the hand of anyone who will try to reconcile the relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia. The indirect reference was to Ayatollah Rafsanjani, ex President of Iran and key man behind Rouhani, who promoted a silence diplomacy to end the crisis between Tehran and Riyadh.
Ayatollah Khatami spoke also about the ballistic missile program of Iran. He stressed the importance to develop the long-range missiles, in order to put the enemies in their place, otherwise “the enemies will not have mercy of anything”.
