The Governor of the Afghanistan Province of Helmand, Hayatullah Hayat, accused Iran of supporting the Taliban with weapons. In particular, Mr. Hayat said that rockets made in Iran were used during the Taliban’s attack in Lashkar Gah, the capital of the Province of Helmad. He also added that the Iranian officials met the Taliban representatives in the city of Krmesar, and the Taliban also used the Iranian weapons during attacks in the cities of Krmesar and Sunken.
The Afghan Governor said that he thinks that the Iranian are supporting the Taliban, because of the dispute between Tehran and Herat, for the Helmand River, which flows also into the Lake Hamond, in the Iranian Province of Balochistan. In February 2016, the Afghan security forces found Iranian-made mines and large amount of arms and ammunitions, during a raid in the Bamyan Province (center of Afghanistan).
