In a long interview given to Sky News Arabic, the Patriarch of the Maronite Church Bechara Boutros al-Rahi attacked Hezbollah and the Palestinian community. Speaking about Hezbollah, the 77-year-old Patriarch criticized the Hezbollah’s decision to take part to the Syrian war, accusing the Shia terrorist organization to divide the political system and society of Lebanon. He also added that it cannot be possible to say that “without Hezbollah Lebanon would be an Islamic State”, because it is also possible to affirm that “because of Hezbollah in Lebanon there is an Islamic State”. The Catholic Patriarch described also as abnormal the existence of an armed political party, which is not controlled by the State (attacking indirectly Lebanese President Aoun who recently defended, despite the UN’s requests, the right of Hezbollah to posses weapons). Finally, Bechara Boutros al-Rahi launched also an harsh accusation against the Palestinian community: he accused them of being responsible for the outbreak of the Lebanese civil war in 1975.
